What about the author signaled to the employees that she was not worthy of their attention?
How many times have you witnessed this? If the answer is never, and this is happening every day and everywhere, why have you never noticed it?
Where will the author go to purchase jewelry in the future? How might her network, knowing about her experience, impact business at that store?

Got A Tissue?
Dear White Woman,
As promised, I need to talk to you about why I hate using public transportation. You know Iâm one of those who are all about saving the planet, and I always have been, but I cannot do public transportation, sis. We found out a few years ago that Iâm an empath, or what is sometimes called a highly sensitive person. I literally sat in busses and trains soaking up other peopleâs energy--good and bad--like a sponge. A counselor framed it perfectly for me when she said, âKim, all it means is that you experience really high highs and really low lows, and that there is no barrier between the energy that is yours and that of others.â
Some people call it a gift and say things like, âI wish I could feel and show empathy,â or âIf only I could be an empath.â For me, it sometimes feels like being tortured. I sometimes wake up at night with dreams of things that are announced on the news the next day or go into deep bouts of depression about a war happening in another country. Donât even mention natural disasters. Ugh! I even sometimes feel the illnesses of family members and friends before they happen. Itâs a gift and a curse all at the same time. Who else do you know that spends a week crying over a whale that washes up on the beach that canât be saved?
Right, nobody.
Thankfully, I have a counselor who helps me to set boundaries with such an outward-facing life and to work through the lows. Now, the highs? They are truly a gift.
An empath through and through,
